Special features have now been announced for the DVD release of the 1970 Jon Pertwee adventure The Ambassadors of Death.
Splendid Shaps, All Of Them!: A tribute to the various roles played in Doctor Who by the actor Cyril Shaps. Includes the 1982 Blue Peter clip which showed eager young viewers how to make their own Archimandrite’s hat.
The Real Ambassadors Of Death: A 50-minute documentary of tangential relevance to the Doctor Who story it accompanies, exploring the real-life stories behind ambassadors who have killed people.
Recolourising the Ambassadors: Detailed instructions on how to finish recolourising these episodes yourself, as the budget for this DVD release didn’t quite stretch to finishing the job.
Levene’s Scene: The complete unaired 30-minute pilot for a BBC2 programme showcasing the latest in contemporary jazz, presented by Sergeant Benton actor John Levene. In this episode Levene jams with John Chilton’s Feetwarmers and George Melly tells a lengthy anecdote about something or other. Features the last recorded TV appearance of Jimi Hendrix, who wandered onto the set accidentally whilst looking for the studio for Dee Time.
Commentary by Clive Tyldesley with Jim Beglin (episodes 1, 3, 5 & 7) and Andy Townsend (episodes 2, 4 & 6). Moderated by Toby Hadoke.

What do you get for the Beatles fan who has everything? Once they’ve got all the albums, the Anthology DVDs and all the movies… well, there’s still Beatles books, T-shirts, mugs, keyrings, fridge…
